Jewelry Care
Proper care will help preserve the beauty and longevity of your jewellery.
Below are general care guidelines as well as material-specific recommendations.
GENERAL CARE
To prevent tarnishing, scratches, or damage:
- Store jewellery separately from other pieces to avoid friction and scratches.
- Keep jewellery in a dry place, ideally in a jewellery box, pouch, or wrapped in a polishing cloth.
- Remove jewellery before exercising, bathing, or sleeping.
- Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, sprays, sunscreen, hair products, and other household chemicals.
- Before storing, gently wipe jewellery with a soft cloth to remove oils, dirt, or moisture.
* Please do not use a silver polishing cloth on gold-plated or gold vermeil jewellery, as it may cause discoloration or wear to the plating.
CARING FOR STERLING SILVER
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time but can easily be restored.
Regular cleaning with a soft cloth and mild soap will help maintain its shine.
When cleaning pieces with gemstones or pearls, avoid direct contact with polishing products as some stones — such as pearls, opals, or emeralds — can be sensitive to chemicals.
CARING FOR FIRED MATTE WHITE SILVER FINISH (MOONSCAPE)

Many MOONSCAPE pieces feature a traditional fired matte white silver finish.
This technique creates a thin layer of white silver oxide on the surface, giving the jewellery a soft matte appearance similar to porcelain.
Because the finish is formed through oxidation, it will gradually change with time and wear.
As the piece is worn, the surface may shift from matte white to a slightly warmer tone, eventually revealing the natural silver beneath. This evolution is part of the material’s character.
If Oxidation Appears
Depending on your preference, you may choose one of the following approaches:
- Embrace the natural change - allow the surface to gradually evolve from porcelain white to a softly aged silver tone.
- Gentle cleaning - if the surface becomes yellowish or darker, lightly rub it with a damp tissue and a small amount of toothpaste, then wipe clean.
- Restore the natural silver - Use a silver polishing stick/cloth to polish the entire piece and reveal the natural silver surface. Occasional polishing with a silver cloth will then help maintain the shine.
MAINTENANCE SERVICE (MOONSCAPE)
Within one year of purchase, MOONSCAPE offers one complimentary re-firing service to restore the white finish.
Customers are responsible for the shipping cost of sending the piece back to us.
The return shipping to the brand and back to the customer is approximately €25-30.
The restoration service itself is free of charge.
CARING FOR GOLD VERMEIL
Gold vermeil is a thick layer of gold plated over sterling silver. It is more durable than standard gold plating, but the gold layer may gradually wear with frequent use, particularly on rings.
To prolong the lifespan of gold vermeil jewellery:
- Store in a dry place when not in use
- Remove before applying perfume, lotion, or cosmetics
- Ensure skin is dry before wearing the jewellery
If the gold layer fades over time, the piece can be professionally re-plated or polished back to silver by a jeweller or silversmith/goldsmith.
CARING FOR NATURAL PEARLS
Freshwater pearls are delicate and should be handled with extra care.
- Store pearls separately to avoid scratches
- Wipe gently with a soft cloth after wearing to remove sweat, oils, or perfume
- Put pearls on only after applying perfume, hairspray, or makeup
Avoid contact with chemicals, as they can damage the pearl’s nacre surface.
